Soham Eco Villa, Heritage Villa in Nainital, Since 1939

Soham Eco Villa is a dream that Shruti Kher and her small but dedicated team hope to share with the world. It is located in Nainital, a lake-and-mountain town on the foothills of the Himalayas in the mountain state of Uttarakhand. Nestled on a hillside in abundant greenery, Soham Eco Villa is a serene space where we hope people will come to relax, work on creative or personal projects, or just take a little time out for some thought and introspection. Soham Eco Villa seeks to support health and wellness in individuals and communities. The place is made available to those who come to spend quiet time, by themselves or with their loved ones, and to enjoy the natural beauty, art and culture of the surrounding areas.

Cottages at Soham Eco Villa

The Kher residence is contiguous to the cottages. The family is warm and friendly, happy to make new acquaintances, and know a great deal about local myths and traditions and the history of the local area. The property on which Soham Eco Villa is located is named Paramountcy. The cottages rented out at Soham Eco Villa are well furnished and comfortable, with modern amenities. The rooms are kept very clean and are beautifully decorated with natural mats and lightning. The cottages overlook a large and extremely lush garden that the Khers have cultivated diligently over the past three decades with the explicit aim of creating a small forest in their back yard. It is dense with flowers—especially in the spring—bamboo stands, hedges, lilies. And there are dozens of trees at various stages of growth—from towering old firs to young chestnuts and moss-bearded, middle-aged Himalayan oaks. As a result, a variety of birds stop by, depending on the season and as their schedules permit. These include flocks of parrots, Himalayan barbets, streaked laughing thrushes, Eurasian jays and various magpies. Most of the cottages have their own terraces, providing a panoramic view of the lake and mountains of Naini Tal. There’s also a large, tiled, rooftop terrace available to the community, where guests often hang out to talk, soak in the sun (Naini Tal is a cold place) and even do a little yoga.
